Opera’s MiniPay stablecoin with new LatAm integration

Opera extends payments with a stablecoin MiniPay through a connection between a stablecoin, such as USDT, and major real-time payment networks in Latin America. 

The upgrade allows the users of MiniPay to carry out their daily transactions in Argentina and Brazil using the popular local systems without experiencing card problems or extra charges.

MiniPay is an app that runs on Celo and can now enable over 10 million users to use their balances of stablecoins to pay their local stores. The new Pay like a local feature uses Noah to tie MiniPay with Mercado Pago in Argentina, and with PIX in Brazil. The two systems dominate their markets and cannot be done away with in day to day financial activity.

Mercado Pago has over 72 million active clients in Argentina. PIX is utilized by the majority of the Brazilian population, as well as PIX makes significantly more transactions than cards. According to Opera, the integration will provide the stablecoin holders and travelers with an efficient method of paying in the economies where foreign cards tend to fail.

The company also claims that the feature provides instant utility to crypto users who visit events like Devconnect in Buenos Aires, where it was rolled out.

Murray Spark, MiniPay Head of Commerce, is convinced that the integration opens spending potentials to stablecoin users. According to him, MiniPay is trying to provide a consistent and easy payment process to individuals who traverse between digital dollars and local currencies. MiniPay converts and settles USD via Noah with the app displaying the amount to users.

According to Spark, it eliminates the gas charges and credit card denials. It also gives you foreseeable rates and straightforward method of making real time payments. He includes that MiniPay now offers cheap transfers of USDT connected to phone numbers.

Opera expands its reach through regional ramp partners

Additional expansion in the form of El Dorado, which is a P2P ramp that enables users to transfer between fiat and USDT in minutes, is also planned by MiniPay. El Dorado enables six markets in Latin America, and the process is instant and transparent in terms of pricing.
